The first new research building at the Duke University Marine Lab since the 1960s, the Orrin Pilkey Research Laboratory offers state-of-the art facilities for molecular research in marine science and conservation. Designed with sensitivity to the changing coastal environment on its Pivers Island location, the research lab occupies the second floor of the building to protect mission critical equipment and irreplaceable specimens from flooding, hurricanes and other hazards; while the first-floor houses collaboration spaces, faculty offices and service spaces.
