Waukesha Engineering Firm Honored with National Design Award
Waukesha, Wisconsin, January 2006
ASHRAE The American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers has presented IBC Engineering Services with the prestigious first-place ASHRAE TECHNOLOGY AWARD for their work at the Chicago Center for Green Technology.
This award recognizes outstanding achievements by members who have successfully applied innovative mechanical systems design that provides energy efficiency, indoor air quality, maintainability, cost effectiveness, and environmental stewardship. Performance is proven through one year’s actual, verifiable operating data. The project was one of three projects, and the only building located in the United States, to receive first place recognition.
IBC Engineering Services designed and commissioned mechanical and plumbing systems for the Chicago Center for Green Technology, a multi-functional facility that serves as a national model of environmentally sensitive design and an educational resource for sustainable technologies. Completed in 2002, this ground breaking project is also the only renovation to date to earn LEED® Platinum Certification, the highest award given by the United States Green Building Council’s green building rating system.
Lev Zvenyach, PE, vice president of IBC Engineering Services and the project’s design engineer is pleased with the honor. “Every building is a living reflection of the owner’s goals and designer’s visions. This award is proof that the goals are noble and the visions noteworthy.” He also acknowledges the award sets the bar even higher for this engineering firm. “I am honored that our work was chosen as the top renovation project in the nation. I also recognize that we will have to work twice as hard to win again next year.”
This project qualified for the national competition by winning the Commercial Buildings, Existing category at the Region VI competition, which includes engineering firms from 12 chapters in six states: North Dakota, Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
