The PAB Mechanical Chase and High Rise Upgrades is the first phase of a multi-phase project to upgrade the existing PAB. This first phase included multiple upgrades for compliance with the high rise section of the building code. Additional upgrades in this phase provided the HVAC, plumbing, electrical and fire protection infrastructure to accommodate the future phases of work that will take place on a floor by floor basis. The Police Department continued to operate from this building during construction.

The scope of work for mechanical included: new supply air riser ducts from existing penthouse air handling units, routed down exterior shafts (east and west) and capped at each floor level for future use, new pressurization fans and controls for stair towers and elevator hoist ways, new fan coil system to condition newly created elevator equipment room in 8th floor penthouse for security elevator, five new variable air volume (VAV) terminal units and controls serving various areas connected to new supply air and hot water risers.

The scope of work for fire protection included: new fire pump, jockey pump and controllers located in dedicated room to replace existing fire pump.
